Most people dream of having their own place. Whether it is a small loft within the city or a moderately-sized pad in the suburbs, each and every one of us has a subconscious need to find a place that they can call their own.

For those who can afford more, they will naturally dream and aim for “bigger” things. For example, Mr. Accountant wants to own a summer lodge in the snowy mountains, while perhaps Ms. Lawyer dreams of spending her weekends in front of her infinity pool in her house by the ocean. For the adventure seekers, a nice cottage by a lake would be perfect. However, you do not need to shell out loads of cash in order to achieve that goal. As they say, you can always dream for free -- it will cost you nothing. Getting that ideal place may not be such an elusive reality after all. All it takes is just a little imagination and creativity, and you will be good to go.

Let us start with Mr. Accountant. You can always throw a little hardwood on the walls and on the floorboards to give your pad a “summer lodge” feeling. For Ms. Lawyer, on the other hand, some nice curtains can give off that “ocean breeze” aura. Of course, a little rearrangement of the furniture would also help create the ambience. As for Mr. Adventurer’s fantasy place, this has some tricky parts. You might want to shell out a few bucks here or you gather some of these materials by yourself. To give off that “outdoor-by-the-lake” feel, you can hang that big bass-shaped carving over by the fireplace. A change of furniture and wall colours will also do the trick. Remember, though, never to replace your indoor furniture with porch furniture. Worse, do not pull out your couch for that fishing chair.
